Hard Edge for Soft Infrastructure: Bollards at the Data Center Perimeter
Aug 15 , 2026

A data center holds everyone's data and almost no one's attention, until something goes near the fence. The perimeter is the whole security model for a building with no windows and no front door, and the threat is mundane: an unauthorised vehicle parked at the gate, a delivery driver who wanders, a protester who drives in. A data center cannot be a soft target at the kerb, and a bollard is the cheapest hard edge it will ever buy.

The perimeter is the building

Inside, the security is world-class; outside, the gate is often a wooden post and a sign. That gap is where the risk lives. A raised post cannot be parked on, driven through or argued with, so the facility edge stops being a suggestion and becomes a line.

Automatic posts by permission

At the staff gate, the vendor bay and the emergency mouth, automatic posts drop for the vehicle that belongs and rise after, so a maintenance run reaches the hall and a stranger does not. Card, tag or a link to the site access system runs each one and logs the opening for the security room. One cabinet drives a whole frontage. The automatic bollards range covers the drive and control.

Fixed posts take the crash line

Around the hall edge and the fuel store, a run of fixed posts sets a permanent, vehicle-proof boundary that does not depend on a signal or a guard. The fixed bollards page sets the spacings and ratings that hold a heavy vehicle yet keep the walk to the entrance open.

Low maintenance, high uptime

A data center expects five-nines from everything around it, including the fence furniture. A sealed electromechanical screw drive has no oil to leak and no pump to fail, the IP67 casing shrugs off weather and a wash-down, and 36V DC is the safe choice where staff work steps from the mechanism. It cycles on command for years with little more than a wipe.

Phase it around the live site

Facilities get hardened while still running, and a trench through a live compound is a hazard. A sealed, low-voltage, pit-free unit drops in beside the running hall, so the upgrade happens around the operation instead of over it. When the layout is still moving, our team can walk through the UPARK approach to phased perimeter control.

The bottom line

A data center cannot post a guard at every metre of fence. A bollard line does the grading for it, quietly, through every shift. For a site whose whole value is uptime, that edge is the security case.
