On April 4, 2026, a vehicle struck parade participants in New Iberia, Louisiana. Around 2:40 PM, during a Lao New Year celebration, over 20 people were injured. Several remained in critical condition.

Police say it may have been alcohol-related, not a deliberate attack. That distinction probably matters little to the families dealing with injuries and hospital visits. Either way, people at a community event ended up hit by a car.

Why Public Spaces Stay Vulnerable

Parades, festivals, markets. These events bring crowds to fixed locations with predictable access points. Vehicles can usually drive right in.
