Torrential rain does something odd to a car park. Traffic slows down, and the damage gets worse anyway. Drivers crawling through a downpour are watching the tail lights ahead, not the kerb, the post, or the shopfront glass. A wet windscreen cuts contrast hard, and 30 mm of standing water hides anything shorter than that, including the low posts that mark where vehicles are supposed to stop.

Most wet-weather incidents in parking areas happen under 20 km/h. That sounds harmless until you price the outcome: a cracked shutter, a broken shop window, damaged stock, an insurance claim, and a bay out of action for a week.

A rising bollard changes that equation in two ways. It gives drivers something they can actually see in the rain, a tall reflective column instead of a 100 mm stub sitting under murky water. And when a distracted or aquaplaning driver keeps coming, it stops the vehicle instead of letting it roll into the entrance.

Two details decide whether the equipment survives the storm. The first is voltage. A bollard standing in water should run on low voltage, because that is what keeps a flooded housing from turning into a shock hazard. UPARK automatic bollards run on a 36 V electromechanical drive.
